The Rogue Skate Cartel is Southern Oregon’s newest and only roller derby team that offers skate and derby training for both boys and girls aged 10-17. We are looking for young men and young ladies that would like to learn to skate better and play the exciting sport of roller derby in the Ashland to Grants Pass area.
Our trainers and staff are experienced roller derby players and coaches that volunteer and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the youth of Southern Oregon by helping to build self-esteem, confidence, and teamwork.
Junior roller derby is growing fast and there are many teams in Oregon and Northern California, as well over 100 teams nationwide that participate in this exciting sport. The Rogue Skate Cartel is under the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA) that has been instrumental in developing, training, and promoting junior roller derby in the United States and other countries as well.
The mission of the Rogue Skate Cartel is to offer an athletic program that will nurture the self-confidence and self-esteem of young women and men in an environment of competitive teamwork while embracing self-expression and diversity.
Our trainers are experienced at coaching roller derby and are dedicated to a “kid’s first” mentality, so the experience of playing on the team is positive and fun. Roller derby is a tough, full-contact sport, but teaching children valuable skills such as leadership, being a team player, helping others and being a good role model for younger players are all important and encouraged.
The Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA) a public non-profit educational and amateur sports organization that is dedicated to advancing the growth of roller derby through the standardization of rules and goals for existing and new leagues.
The mission of JRDA is to nurture bold self-confidence in youth by developing teamwork and athletic ability while treasuring individuality within a culture of integration, encouragement, and service to others.
JRDA partners with competitive & recreational junior leagues, communities & schools, mentors & families; to empower youth through the international sport of roller derby.
Roller derby offers kids a unique alternative to other team sports where they may have felt left out, excluded, or even ridiculed. Our team is focused on positive atmosphere of acceptance, participation, and inclusion of everyone, regardless of skill. At the awkward stage children may be at during the middle school and high school years, it is important that they have a sense of community and team that may be missing in their lives.
Plus, you can have a killer roller derby name!
Starting May 8th, we will be holding practice at our new location on SUNDAYS
Rogue Baptist Church
649 Crater Lake Ave. Between Spring St. and Stevens St.
We will also keep practicing at Hawthorne park on Wednesdays until school ends
Practice times can vary, however this is our typical practice schedule:
Wednesdays: 5:30-6:30 (Hawthorne)
Sundays: 7pm-6pm (RBC)
We want to thank the gracious Rogue Baptist Church members for letting us make use of their gym. We’re so excited to have a permanent place to play.
We could always use some extra coaches, refs, and ticket takers for our bouts!
Not every player has the means to buy all of their gear. We try our best to rent what gear we have out to those who need it, but we could always use more. Have any old gear you’re not using? We’d appreciate your donation!
